To The Blue Sky. . .
5.21.2005

The show went really well. There must have been like 200 kids there. Both my sister and I are covered for the summer. Definitely a success. Thanks to everyone who came. One of the best parts of the night was when we were waiting for the Chicago boys to arrive, I got up and talked about what the money was being raised for and why I was going on the trip and what I'd be doing and such, and I sang a song* and then when I was walking off stage the drummer from Scarlet May gave me a dollar. It was so funny and cool. Good guy, you know?

Also, D.B. Cooper dominated. I don't know if you quite understand. It was good. Best moment: "Benonmena!"

Then! On the way home from dropping off Ian afterwards, I was driving down Racine and I saw a freaking fox! Just walking down the sidewalk. Then it turned down a side street by Palmer park, so I did a U-turn and followed it. It was just walking in the grass by the side of the road with some little animal hanging in it's mouth. But when I slowed down and stopped next to it to take a picture, it darted into the woods. Freaking crazy though, huh? I was following it for a good 10 or so yards. Definite fox.

* I wrote it the other night when I was feeling very lost about life and my future and all the unknown that basically feels like it's the majority of my existence. Then I was comforted. Honestly, it was beautiful. Just sitting on my bed crying, and then being touched and knowing that everything was okay. God has it in his hands, you know? And what better place could I hope to be?

Untitled

Through everything, you're there for me
When I can't even see the ground where my feet should be
You take my hand, set me upon dry land
You dig my ruined house from the sand
And promise I'll never be lost at sea again

When I was there, I confess I got so scared
Waves were everywhere, and my mouth was filled with salt but no air
But you, you were there too
You were the hand that reached
The hand that grasped to pull me from the deep

And you are the reason that I breathe
The reason that I sing
The reason I'm alive to tell the tale
Of my life spent at sea

I confess that it's not finished and I made up a last verse. I don't remember what I sang.
